Is this Winter?

Ran last evening in the dark. The weirdest part was running by houses decorated with Christmas lights in a tank top and shorts. And then today - warm again. This weather is just not normal. I gotta say - it sure beats snow!

Addition to the Honor Roll

Saturday was to be an 8 mile training run. Our legs were so tired - it was one tough run. That race took a lot out of me. But - it got done. Not much else to say about that.

Some of you are aware that I keep a list of people in my life (or my close friends' lives) that have been affected by cancer. Today I got the news that one of those people, my Aunt Carol, lost her battle with colon cancer. I was not that close to her - but that doesn't matter does it? Family is family.

New 5k Personal Record!

Yesterday's little Turkey Trot turned into a PR! Wahoo!!

I had no intention of going anywhere near a store today - but after looking through the flyers while having my breakfast pumpkin pie (it's good for you - it's a vegetable!) - I decided to venture to the nearby strip mall.

I ended up buying - for me. Whoops. But the deals were good and I don't know what I'm getting for anyone yet. The knee high black leather boots - those were a little excessive - but they are perfect!

I'm calling my shopping trip - trying on clothes, hustling through crowds, standing in lines - that's all cross training. Right?

Thanksgiving Eve

I left the house this morning with snow coming down - and a couple of inches on the ground. By the time I got to the office it was just rain. Thankfully, when I went to run - it was just windy and chilly. So glad I didn't have to contend with snow, slush or rain. Ankles bled - again. I guess I have to cover the cuts for a few days.

Tomorrow we're running the local Turkey Trot 5k that benefits Gerry's Food Pantry and the homeless shelter. We've done this one before. You register but you also bring food or money. It's early so you have plenty of time for family festivities afterwards.  And lots of families do the race - it's nice seeing them out there. Although I kind of freak when I see little kids crying and not wanting to go on and the parents making them keep going. That doesn't seem like a good way to foster a love of running.

Today I am thankful we have beer in the house (nothing like a cold beer in a hot shower after a run).

Perhaps you're feeling thankful and generous - and I just happen to be raising money to fight cancer!
Happy Thanksgiving Eve!!

Bloody Socks

Did a short little 3 miler today. In the dark with the dog. The temperature dropped about 20 degrees from when I left the house to when I got to the end of the street. My capris were fine but I needed an extra shirt.

Because it was dark, and I had the dog, I decided to try out some new reflectivity gear. They are these strap things that just snap around your arm or leg. They look like these but are not this brand:

I put them on my lower legs. As I ran I was thinking they were sliding down to my ankle - but OK. Until I got home and noticed the blood dripping from the tiny cuts around my ankles. Kurt Schilling's got nothing on me - I ran with a bloody sock!! And let me tell you - when the water in the shower hit my ankles - ouchies!!

Have I mentioned that I'm raising money for Dana-Farber Cancer Research?

4 Months 25 Days Until Boston

I just ran my 4th half-marathon last weekend. I still didn't hit my target time (which is so slow I won't share it) - but I did get a PR (Personal Record) by about 10 minutes. I am definitely as strong a runner as I've ever been. Well, except maybe when I was playing field hockey in college 20+ years ago!!

I'm now in my recovery week - and transitioning to the training plan that Dana-Farber provided. I've opted for the 'Intermediate' plan - only because it starts at the mileage I've been doing in my lead up to the half marathon. I do have to go from running 3 days a week to 4 during this transition period. Which may sound like no big deal - but I'm not as young as I used to be and running back-to-back days is something I've avoided for years.

Dana-Farber provides all kinds of support for us runners. We have training plans, a coach, group runs and lots of help and ideas about raising money. OH - did I forget to mention I am raising money? My Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge Page
